Elizabeth Philippe, M.D., Biography
Dr. Elizabeth Philippe is a highly accomplished medical professional dedicated to serving underserved communities. She began her medical journey at the State University Medical School of Haiti, graduating in 1984. Her commitment to helping disadvantaged populations was solidified after completing a year of required service in a remote area in Haiti.
To further her impact, Dr. Philippe pursued a master’s degree in public health from Yale University, graduating in 1986. She then worked briefly at the New York State Department of Health before returning to Haiti in 1987, where she served as Medical Director for the Albert Schweitzer Hospital’s Community Health Department.
Her career took a significant leap in 1990 when she joined the Haitian Ministry of Public Health as National Coordinator for the Maternal and Child Health Program and later became actively involved in the national immunization program with the World Health Organization/Pan American Health Organization.
Dr. Philippe returned to the United States in 1995 to participate in a program sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, focusing on the epidemiology and prevention of substance abuse. She then completed her family medicine residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2002 and became a board-certified family medicine practitioner. Dr. Philippe worked as an attending physician and preceptor at the same hospital until 2005.
In 2005, she joined Community Health of South Florida Inc. (CHI), where she now serves as the Designated Institutional Official of its Teaching Health Center and as the Chief of Family Medicine. Her passion for community health is evident in her engagement with HIV/AIDS and youth development programs. Her personal interests include reading, classical guitar music, and participating in community activities.
