Report of Dr Eric Jerome, AMHE coordinator, Week of April 25 2010
I landed at Toussaint Louverture International airport for my second tour of duty in Port-Au-Prince. The capital of Haiti is like Bagdad during the Gulf war or Dresden at the end of WWII. It looks like a sustained air bombardment had taken place.
In the grand scheme of things, I recognize that what I did was negligible. People who said “God bless you” were not aware of the paucity of my contribution, nor the immense contribution of others who gave so much more. Still, this experience paints a portrait of our frail humanity and our incomplete ability to deal with it.
I returned on January 29th from an eight-day stint in Haiti to assist in the medical relief efforts following the devastating earthquakes that besieged their island nation.
